A Scene from Passione

Music and Dances with Pathos By Lietta Tornabuoni / LA STAMPA

passione review Naples documentary by Turturro
is beautiful.

Pathos and entertainment are found in Passione, by John Turturro, a rare musical film. In individual successive frames we have a collection of classical and modern Neapolitan songs.

These are all sung by singers from the present and past. They are well staged, sometimes accompanied by dances (Turturro himself, who would have liked to be a dancer, dances next to Fiorello for Caravan Petrol by Carosone).

They are wonderful: Peppe Barra with his sweet savagery in Tammurrìata nera; Sergio Bruni in 'O soie mio (his sweet voice is ideal in the beginning of the song «Che bella cosa 'na jurnata 'e sole»); Pino Daniele in his song Napul'e.

All songs are illustrated as expressions of History and of the spirit of the city.
